Fairfield Police are investigating the theft of a purse from an 85-year-old woman, and learned that a credit card from the stolen purse had been used to purchase a 32-inch Element flat screen television for $210.57 at the Walmart on Barnum Avenue in Stratford.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, at 8 p.m., the victim reported the theft of her pocketbook from Walgreen’s in Fairfield. She told police she entered the store, placed her pocketbook in the top of the carriage and walked through the isle for about 20 minutes before proceeding to the checkout, where she realized it was missing.
Video surveillance shows a man entering the store. Police said the suspect did not purchase anything, and was seen leaving quickly with an object held close to his person. He is described as a white male with a thin black beard and goatee, wearing a white baseball cap with an unidentified logo at the front, blue and white New England Patriots jacket, white and black scarf, and blue jeans.
The investigating officer assisted the victim in contacting credit card companies to report them stolen and to inquire about possible fraudulent activity.
The first man is accompanied by another suspect, described as a black male wearing a white knit hat, long black jacket with a plaid shirt. The suspects left in a red or maroon vehicle that was missing the rear passenger side hub cap, exposing a black rim on the passenger side.
Surveillance photos of both suspects and the vehicle can be viewed at stratfordstar.com.
If anyone has information about the theft or illegal use of the credit card is asked to contact Fairfield Police at 203-254-4800.
