The Stratford Fire Department has been awarded the Federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $75,897 to purchase systems that allow firefighters to safely escape from windows or other openings while firefighters operate above a fire in a structure while searching for trapped occupants.
The personal bailout systems for each Stratford firefighter will be hooked up directly to the firefighter’s gear and provide specialized ropes and an automatic descending device. Firefighters caught above a fire will be able to escape through windows, or rescue and lower victims by using this system.
This device would be used in an emergency if all other means of egress have been compromised.
The Stratford Fire department expressed gratitude to the Congressional delegation for the support for the funding of these programs.
This grant which will help pay for (96) Personal Bailout Systems and the specialized training that the Stratford firefighters will receive to utilize these devices.
