Firefighters from Stratford and Bridgeport cooperated and extinguished a fire on the third-floor, rear porch of a multi-family home at 1995 Barnum Ave. at about 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 12.

The location in Stratford is close to the Bridgeport city line.

Occupants were being evacuated when firefighters arrived. There were no reports of any injuries, and no one required attention by Stratford EMS, which also responded to the dispatch.

Fire damage was contained to the rear exit stair and the building siding, according to Stratford Fire Marshal Brian Lampart.

Smoke damage was throughout all three apartments with the third floor receiving the most damage. It may not be re-occupied for some time, according to Lampart.

Damage was less in the first and second floor apartments, and occupants may be able to return once electrical power is restored, Lampart said.

Over a dozen occupants were displaced by the fire damage, and many sought relief from the Red Cross.

Bridgeport Fire was first to put water on the fire, but they switched to a supportive, assisting role when Stratford quickly got into position, according to Assistant Chief Doug Reitmeyer.

The fire remains under investigation by the Stratford Fire Marshal’s Office.
