Assault and disorderly conduct
A Stratford man who police said assaulted his stepfather and locked himself in his home is facing three charges from that Jan. 18 incident.
Andrew Brown, 22, of 561 Henry Ave. Extension, is charged with third-degree assault, threatening and disorderly conduct. Police said Brown’s mother called at 1:36 a.m. and said that Brown assaulted his stepfather, who suffered minor injuries. Police said Brown did not leave the home when asked and had barricaded himself in his home. Police had to enter the home through the basement. Officers found Brown lying on a bed and he was taken into custody without incident. Police did find a 12-inch butcher knife, but it was not used. He was taken to a hospital.
Credit card theft
A Bridgeport woman accused of stealing a wallet from a fitness center and then using debit and credit cards faced several charges after turning herself in to Stratford police on Jan. 13.
Police charged Loraina Chase, 32, of 561 Pearl Harbor Street, with fourth-degree larceny, fraudulent use of an ATM, credit card theft, illegal use of a credit card, and illegally obtaining goods and services.
Police said Chase was at the Fitness Edge on Beardsley Street last February and stole someone’s wallet and began using the credit cards. Police said an officer saw her at the gym and asked gym personnel for her information to seek a warrant for her arrest. Police said Chase used the victim’s debit card to purchase $270 worth of gas and charged $340 for merchandise at the Target store in Trumbull. Police served the warrant when Chase was in court on a different matter. She appeared in court on Jan. 21 to answer for the Stratford charges.
Disorderly conduct
A Stratford man was issued four charges after police said he had a physical altercation with his girlfriend and then left their home before police arrived.
Roberto Cruz, 41, of 52 Graham Street, was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and risk of injury to a minor.
Police said a woman called police at about 8 a.m. Jan. 15 claiming her boyfriend stole $60 from her. After the woman confronted Cruz about it, she told police, Cruz grabbed her by the neck, cursed at her and threw a milk crate at her. Police said the woman’s son was at home at the time and she told him to go to his room. Police said Cruz left the home and was found by officers walking along Barnum Avenue toward Bridgeport. Cruz was cooperative and did not resist arrest. The woman suffered minor injuries, police said. Cruz was scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 16.
Burglary
A Greenwich man is facing a third-degree burglary charge stemming from a 2012 incident in which two West Broad Street stores were broken into.
Jamar Anthony Jones was arrested on a warrant on Jan. 15. Police said someone broke into the Flower Basket and the Acropolis Pizza next door three years ago and $500 was stolen from the flower shop. Police had fingerprints tested and they received word last Aug. 14 that prints on a broken door matched Jones’s. Police said Jones was contacted to come in for interviews with police and never showed up. Police issued a warrant for his arrest on Jan. 8 and he turned himself in a week later.
Incorrect use of highways
A Stratford man is facing three charges after police said he ran from police and lied about his location.
Police charged Kyle Mones, 27, of 28 Riverview Place, with failure to yield the right-of-way, pedestrian use of highways and interfering with an officer.
Police said Mones and another man were seen last June 14 walking by a bridge construction site where police were looking to stop the theft of equipment. Police said they saw a drug transaction take place. A man with Mones was stopped and detained, but Mones ran from the scene toward Barnum Avenue Cutoff. Police contacted Mones and he told officers on June 16 during questioning that he was in East Haven that day. Police said they found that he was in Stratford. A warrant was issued for his arrest on July 3. Mones turned himself in on Jan. 16.
Strangulation
Peter Latham, 35, of Stratford was arrested Jan. 6 on charges of strangulation and disorderly conduct after police responded to a call of a domestic dispute. Police say that Latham’s wife claims that during an argument over family matters he choked her before she broke the hold and walked out.
Attempting to get away from police
Police arrested Aron Medina, 35, believed to be homeless, for engaging police in pursuit. Police say they approached a suspicious car parked all night in front of a Clinton Avenue home after determining that the registration plate did not belong to the car and that the car matched the description of a car sought related to burglaries in town. When police found a man in the car, the man turned on the car and drove away, getting onto I-95 and driving erratically, according to a police report. Bridgeport police made the stop and the arrest. Addidtional charges were: operating unregistered vehicle, misuse of plate, no insurance, reckless driving, and interfering with an officer.
Failure to register sexual offense
The state of Connecticut notified Stratford police that Nelson Rivera, 49, whose last known address was Elm Street in Stratford, failed to register as required for a sexually violent offense. Local police issued a warrant and arrested Rivera for the failure to register.
