Stratford Police responded to a report of graffiti vandalism that included the “N” word on some items on the grounds of Stratford Academy Johnson House on Birdseye Street, Monday, Aug. 18.
Chief Patrick Ridenhour reported that officers also “found a utility box in the nearby area that was similarly tagged.”
Police processed all scenes for evidence purposes, and then Public Works was contacted to clean up “the offensive graffiti,” according to the chief.
The “N” word refers to a racial epithet.
“Clearly, this is disturbing and unacceptable behavior,” Ridenhour said.
The incident is under investigation. No arrests have been made in this case.
Town Councilwoman Stephanie Philips, showed photos of some of the graffiti to “The Star” and said, “The town doesn’t tolerate” such behavior.
Photos have not been released.
This vandalism follows incidents of graffiti in the Wilcoxson Avenue area in mid-July, which included swastika symbols of hate, and references to racial superiority.
Two Stratford 14-year-old male teens were arrested in mid-August and charged for those crimes.
Ridenhour asks anyone with information on the recent Johnson House graffiti to contact Detective Santos at 203-385-4143, or the TIPS line at 203-375-8477, or utilize the I-Watch Stratford mobile device application.
Stratford Academy Johnson House is a public school for grades three through six.
