Stratford EMS announced the acquisition and deployment of new Apple iPad mobile data terminals for their six ambulances and four paramedic vehicles.
MDTs are used by the EMS responders in emergency vehicles, who are not driving, to access vital information about the scene and the patient they are responding to, which makes their approach to each emergency more efficient, according to a media release. Information gathered by a 911 dispatcher during a 911 call is entered into a computer-aided dispatch system and then sent out to the MDT.
The devices are used also by responders to update the dispatch center with important information about their location, response and the responders’ needs.
The new MDT’s are built from an iPad platform using NexGen Public Safety’s NexResponder application, including satellite global positioning (GPS), and they provide a new and cutting-edge level of accuracy, efficiency and information-sharing greater than most other EMS agencies have achieved, according to the department. EMS Director Michael Loiz said that Norwalk Fire and EMS have visited Stratford EMS because they are interested in following suit.
According to Loiz, the MDTs were purchased as part of a new CAD project, and the iPads were “more cost-effective than the traditional laptop MDTs.”
Loiz said, “Stratford EMS continues to remain a cutting-edge and progressive EMS service for Stratford residents.”
